Over the past week, a chart showing the distribution of consumer dollars spent on recorded music has bounced around the internet, seeming to show that music sales overall are doing pretty well here in the digital age:
Which is great, until you look at the data adjusted for inflation, as anyone seeking truth in the numbers would:
And then you’ll notice, as Business Insider’s Michael DeGusta did, that the original chart tells a story that, if we’re being honest, is completely wrong. Spending isn’t up — it’s down. Way down.
